With summer just around the corner, many of us are looking forward to all those fun, outdoor activities that are put on hold the rest of the year. But for some of us, planning summer activities takes a little more thought. If you wear clear Invisalign aligners, there are some activities that could risk you damaging or losing your aligners.
It’s important to be careful and make sure you protect your aligners the same way you’d protect your actual smile. Aligners can easily be damaged during high contact sports and hobbies, which you should be aware of if you plan to engage in those types of activities. You may also be afraid of losing them in the pool or ocean while swimming. Fortunately, swimming doesn’t necessarily pose a threat to your aligners. As long as they’re snug, you can be safe in the pool even with Invisalign.
Have fun and forget that they’re there
Since your aligners are designed to fit snugly on your unique teeth, you don’t have to worry about them just falling off. As a result, you can go swimming in the pool with Invisalign aligners without much difficulty. Since it’s recommended that you wear your aligners for 22 hours a day, it is better to keep them in while swimming than take them out and put them back later.
There is a possibility that you may fiddle with the aligners or disrupt them while playing with friends. This could lead to the aligners falling off or sustaining damage. If something does happen to your aligners, don’t panic. There are a few options for people who have lost or broken an Invisalign aligner.
In case the worst case happens…
Losing an Invisalign tray is unfortunate, but it’s not the end of the world. If you need to wait for a replacement aligner or the next set in the series, you can often wear your previous aligners in the interim. If you were almost done with the aligner that was lost, you can usually move on to the next set. However, first check with your orthodontist to hear their recommendation.
